We had a customer that was looking for an ergonomic solution that would allow them to lift two different parts, so the FlexArm engineers designed a custom end effector that utilizes a pneumatic long-stroke gripper to maneuver a 155-pound part and 40-pound part.
The PM-22s model FlexArm was used in this application because it is capable of lifting up to 200 pounds. This will allow the part manipulator to handle both parts with ease. The end effector has a 180-degree rotation, which allows the part to be flipped upside down, and the spring plunger locks the rotation in at 90-degree intervals.
This part manipulator includes two sets of fingers for two different parts and will allow the customer to utilize just one part manipulator arm for two separate jobs. One set of fingers has carbide-tipped grippers to provide a secure hold and help locate the slot in the customer’s part. The other set of fingers uses Teflon pads to help protect the surface finish. The V-shaped fingers assist in making sure it fully encompasses the diameter of the part. The fingers include a top and bottom cap to ensure the part will not slide out.
The FlexArm team is dedicated to solving ergonomic problems, and will gladly design a custom solution to fit any application. Click here to learn more about our part manipulator solutions.
